    Wellcome Trust’s New CEO Visits OUCRU in Indonesia and Vietnam: Strengthening a Decades-long Partnership in Health Research 

    On January 22-23, 2024, Wellcome’s new CEO, Dr John-Arne Røttingen visited the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) in Indonesia and Vietnam, accompanied by Dr Paul Schreier, the COO and outgoing acting CEO. The delegation received a warm welcome from the director board, including OUCRU Director Prof. Guy Thwaites, OUCRU Indonesia Director Prof. Kevin Baird, and the leaders of partnered hospitals and organisations.  

    During the visit, Dr. Røttingen had productive meetings with leaders of OUCRU’s host hospitals and institutions in both Indonesia and Vietnam. In Indonesia, discussions were held with Prof. Ari Fahrial Syam, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia (FMUI) – the institute hosting OUCRU Indonesia, and Prof. Badriul Hegar Syarif, the Director of Indonesia Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI). The meeting provided insights into the works of OUCRU and partners in Indonesia, opening up possibilities for further collaborations.

    In Vietnam, the Wellcome Trust delegation met with the Director Board of the Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City, the host institution for OUCRU Ho Chi Minh City. The discussions were led by Hospital Director, Prof. Nguyen Thanh Dung. Dr. Røttingen values the close partnership between OUCRU and its local host partners, recognising the significant contributions they make in advancing health research and translating those findings into clinical practice.

    The delegation also toured OUCRU’s laboratory facilities, which house state-of-the-art research equipment, including many funded by the Wellcome Trust. These well-equipped labs are critical in OUCRU’s efforts to study and address prevalent diseases in the region. Dr. Røttingen was also briefed on the lab’s strict safety guidelines and protocols, underscoring OUCRU’s commitment to the safety of researchers and the surrounding environment.

    The visit concluded with an engaging session between Dr Røttingen and OUCRU staff. He delivered a speech outlining Wellcome’s mission to enhance global health research and innovation, with a focus on mental health, infectious diseases, and collaboration with other funders.  

    OUCRU, part of the Wellcome Asia and Africa Programme, has received substantial support from the UK-based foundation since its inception in 1991. This partnership plays a significant role in OUCRU’s impactful research in Southeast Asia and contributes to the realisation of Wellcome’s vision for promoting health research worldwide.

    Tiến sĩ Jennifer van Nuil gia nhập OUCRU vào năm 2018 nhờ chương trình tài trợ của Quỹ Wellcome mang tên Mạng lưới đạo đức sinh học y tế toàn cầu. Năm 2018, Tiến sÄ© van Nuil đã tham gia chÆ°Æ¡ng trình lãnh đạo ‘Make A Difference’ tại OUCRU, chÆ°Æ¡ng trình này đóng vai trò là chất xúc tác giúp cô củng cố khả năng lãnh đạo và hoàn thiện kỹ năng thuyết trình của mình.

    “TrÆ°á»›c đây[the programme], tôi chỉ có má»™t phong cách lãnh đạo, chủ yếu là thoải mái và linh hoạt. NhÆ°ng má»™t số tình huống đòi hỏi nhiều cân nhắc hÆ¡n. ChÆ°Æ¡ng trình đã giúp tôi nhận ra những phong cách lãnh đạo khác nhau, những tình huống khác nhau và những con người khác nhau đòi hỏi những cách tiếp cận lãnh đạo khác nhau.”

    Hành trình phát triển của Tiến sĩ Jennifer cũng có nhiều những thử thách cá nhân. Cô có thời kì vật lộn với hội chứng kẻ mạo danh (impostor syndrome), điển hình là thiếu tự tin dai dẳng dù đã đạt được những thành tích đáng kể trong sự nghiệp của mình.

    “Nó bắt đầu trong hành trình làm luận án tiến sÄ© của tôi. Trong hành trình nghiên cứu, tôi nhận ra có rất nhiều Ä‘iều mình chÆ°a biết, và mình chỉ là má»™t phần nhỏ trong thế giá»›i rá»™ng lá»›n. Đồng thời, môi trường học thuật rất cạnh tranh và đầy thách thức. Từ từ, tôi đã bị khuất phục và mất tá»± tin vào bản thân.”

    Bối cảnh cạnh tranh của môi trường học thuật cÅ©ng khiến cô liên tục bị từ chối các cÆ¡ há»™i. “CÅ©ng dá»… hiểu thôi. Là má»™t học giả, phần lá»›n cuá»™c sống của tôi là bị từ chối cÆ¡ há»™i. Khi ná»™p Ä‘Æ¡n xin tài trợ cho nghiên cứu, phần lá»›n đều bị từ chối. Ná»™p bài nghiên cứu để xuất bản thì rất hiếm khi má»™t bản thảo được chấp nhận mà không phải sá»­a gì. Khi học Tiến sÄ©, thì luận án lúc nào cÅ©ng cần được cải thiện”, cô chia sẻ.

    ChÆ°Æ¡ng trình ‘Make A Difference’ cÅ©ng cho cô cÆ¡ há»™i đối thoại vá»›i các đồng nghiệp của mình về cách vượt qua há»™i chứng này.

    “Lúc đầu thì rất ngại,” cô giải thích. “Vì phải cởi mở vá»›i đồng nghiệp của mình và nói rằng: ‘Tôi mắc há»™i chứng kẻ mạo danh.’ Ngại chứ, vì mình ở vị trí dá»… bị tổn thÆ°Æ¡ng, nhÆ°ng thừa nhận Ä‘iều đó là Ä‘iều tốt.”

    Là thành viên của một nhóm quốc tế gồm hơn 10.000 học giả là nữ cũng giúp cô nhận ra sự phổ biến của hội chứng kẻ mạo danh đối với nhóm này. Kể từ khi tham gia chương trình, cô bắt đầu chia sẻ kinh nghiệm của mình với các nghiên cứu sinh tiến sĩ và đồng nghiệp của cô tại OUCRU, thúc đẩy một môi trường cởi mở và khuyến khích cho các nhà nghiên cứu trẻ.

    Dr Jennifer van Nuil: Spearheading Social Science Research at OUCRU

    Dr Jennifer van Nuil joined OUCRU in 2018 thanks to a grant from the Wellcome-funded Global Health Bioethics Network. At the time, OUCRU did not have a Social Science group, so she was a part of the Clinical Trials Unit, carrying out ethics and implementation research that complemented the existing clinical research work at OUCRU.   

    “We were looked at as ethics experts, which really isn’t it. That was the challenge at the beginning,” she explained. “But over time, we gave academic presentations and explained what we were doing. People now come to us looking to integrate social science [into their research].”   

    Social Science, Ethics and Implementation Research officially became a research group at OUCRU in March 2023, with Dr Jennifer van Nuil as its group head.

    Under her leadership, the group thrives as a collaborative force of seven multidisciplinary researchers. They act as a bridge between clinical research and practical implementation. By incorporating social science methodologies and ethical considerations into research projects, they ensure that the findings are not only scientifically rigorous but also relevant and applicable to the communities they aim to serve. This approach enhances the effectiveness and sustainability of interventions developed through OUCRU’s research.  

    Dr. van Nuil’s leadership style is characterised by adaptability and empathy. Recognising the uniqueness of individuals and situations, she adeptly balances flexibility and firmness in her approach. This enables her to foster an environment of trust, collaboration, and personal development within her team. In 2018, Dr. van Nuil participated in the ‘Make A Difference‘ leadership program at OUCRU, which served as a catalyst for expanding her leadership repertoire and refining her presentation skills.  

    “Before [the programme], I just had one leadership style, which is more laid back and flexible. But some situations require you to be a bit more commanding. The programme helped me recognise the different leadership styles, and different situations and different people require different leadership approaches.”  

    Dr. van Nuil’s journey has not been without personal challenges. She acknowledges wrestling with impostor syndrome, a persistent self-doubt despite notable achievements.   

    “It started during my PhD journey. As you study more, you realise there’s so much about the world you don’t know, and you’re just one little fragment in it. At the same time, the academic environment is very competitive and very challenging. And so you just start to slowly succumb to it and lose confidence in yourself.”  

    Navigating the competitive landscape of academia has also exposed her to repeated rejection. “I mean, think about it. As academics, a lot of our life is about rejection. When you apply for grants, the majority are rejected. You submit papers, and it’s very rare for a manuscript to get accepted outright. And with your Ph.D., your thesis is never good enough for your advisor,” she shared.   

    The Make A Difference Programme also gave her an opportunity to start a dialogue with her peers about overcoming impostor syndrome.   

    “It’s intense at first,” she explained. “You’re opening up to your colleagues, saying, ‘I have impostor syndrome.’ It is intense. You’re vulnerable, but it is good to acknowledge.”   

    Being a part of a social media network of academic women, an international group of over 10,000 female academics, also helped her recognise the prevalence of impostor syndrome in this field. Since joining the MAD programme, she started sharing her experiences with PhD students and her colleagues at OUCRU, fostering an open and encouraging environment for young researchers.  

    The Social Science, Ethics, and Implementation Research Group plays a crucial role in shaping research outcomes at OUCRU. With a focus on ethnographic, qualitative, mixed-method research, participatory action research, health economics, and implementation research, their work feeds into larger biomedical research themes and integrated studies that link with and enhance biomedical research at OUCRU.

    Dalam satu studi baru di The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene oleh Dr. Marlous Grijsen dan rekan-rekannya, inisiatif ini tercatat berhasil meningkatkan akses perawatan kulit berkualitas bagi populasi yang kurang terjamah pelayanan kesehatan di Sumba. Dengan menghubungkan nakes lokal dengan dokter spesialis kulit berpengalaman menggunakan platform daring, program ini tidak hanya berhasil meningkatkan pelayanan kesehatan kulit, tetapi juga telah memberdayakan nakes yang berada di garda terdepan dengan keahlian dermatologi yang berharga.

    Menjembatani Kesenjangan dalam Layanan Dermatologis

    Studi ini menggambarkan insiatif teledermatologi berbiaya rendah di Sumba, salah satu pulau terpencil di Indonesia Timur. Meskipun prevalensi penyakit kulit di Sumba tinggi, pengobatan spesialis di daerah terpencil seperti ini langka. Proyek inovatif yang merupakan hasil kerja sama antara Universitas Gadjah Mada, Sumba Foundation, dan OUCRU Indonesia ini berhasil menjembatani kesenjangan dalam layanan dermatologi berkat teknologi telekomunikasi yang memungkinkan pemberian saran spesialis kulit secara cepat dan efektif.

    Temuan Utama Studi

    Selama 24 bulan (Oktober 2020–Oktober 2022), layanan ini berhasil menjangkau 307 pasien dengan berbagi keluhan kulit. Mayoritas kasus yang ditemui adalah infeksi, infestasi, dan kondisi eksematosa, termasuk penyakit kulit tropis yang terabaikan seperti kusta dan kudis. Studi ini mengamati peningkatan dalam persetujuan diagnosis antara nakes lokal dengan dermatolog, dari 46,9% menjadi 77,2%, selama durasi proyek. Peningkatan keakuratan diagnosis ini membuktikan keberhasilan proyek dalam mentransfer pengetahuan dan mengembangkan keterampilan para nakes garda terdepan.

    Layanan teledermatologi ini juga berdampak signifikan terhadap komunitas lokal karena mampu memberikan diagnosis dan nasihat dari spesialis kulit dalam waktu kurang lebih 50 menit dengan sebagian besar konsultasi terselesaikan dalam waktu 24 jam. Semua nakes yang terlibat dalam proyek ini mengakui bahwa layanan ini bermanfaat dan telah meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menangani penyakit kulit.

    Berkaca tentang dampak proyek ini, Dr. Marlous Grijsen menjelaskan, “Apa yang kita lihat di Sumba lebih dari sekadar pemberian layanan. Ini tentang memupuk ekosistem perawatan yang berkelanjutan. Proyek teledermatologi ini tidak hanya meningkatkan kondisi pasien, tetapi juga meningkatkan kepercayaan diri dan keterampilan para penyedia layanan kesehatan lokal dalam menangani penyakit kulit. Ini adalah bukti nyata bagaimana teknologi dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan layanan kesehatan di lokasi yang paling terpencil dan terbatas sumber daya.”

    Publikasi ini membuka jalan bagi replikasi dan implementasi lebih lanjut di wilayah lain dengan kondisi serupa dalam rangka memperbaiki akses layanan kesehatan di daerah yang paling membutuhkannya.

    Sáng kiến đổi mới chẩn đoán bệnh da liễu thành công tại miền Đông Indonesia

    Trong nghiên cứu mới của Tiến sĩ, Bác sĩ Marlous Grijsen và đồng nghiệp vừa được đăng trên Tạp chí Y học Nhiệt đới và Vệ sinh Hoa Kỳ, sáng kiến ​​này đã cải thiện khả năng tiếp cận dịch vụ chăm sóc da có chất lượng cho người dân Sumba, một hòn đảo xa xôi ở miền Đông Indonesia. Thông qua các phương tiện trực tuyến, sáng kiến đã kết nối nhân viên y tế địa phương với các bác sĩ da liễu có kinh nghiệm. Điều này giúp người dân dễ tiếp cận với các dịch vụ chăm sóc da, đồng thời trao quyền cho nhân viên y tế tuyến đầu bằng cách giúp họ tiếp cận với những kiến thức chuyên môn về da liễu.

    Thu hẹp khoảng cách trong chăm sóc da liễu

    Nghiên cứu tập trung vào việc thành lập dịch vụ khám bệnh từ xa với chi phí thấp ở Sumba, một hòn đảo xa xôi ở miền Đông Indonesia. Mặc dù tỷ lệ mắc bệnh ngoài da cao, nhưng việc chăm sóc đặc biệt ở những vùng xa xôi như Sumba thường rất khan hiếm. Sáng kiến này được khởi xướng bởi nỗ lực hợp tác giữa Đại học Gadjah Mada, Quỹ Sumba và OUCRU Indonesia, nhằm thu hẹp khoảng cách trong chăm sóc da liễu, tận dụng công nghệ để đưa ra lời khuyên chuyên môn một cách nhanh chóng và hiệu quả.

    Phản ánh về tác Ä‘á»™ng của sáng kiến ​​này, Tiến sÄ©, Bác sÄ© Marlous Grijsen nhận xét: “Những gì chúng tôi thấy ở Sumba không chỉ dừng lại ở việc cung cấp dịch vụ mà còn tạo ra má»™t hệ sinh thái y tế bền vững.     Nghiên cứu này này tạo tiền đề cho khả năng mở rộng tiềm năng và triển khai sâu hơn ở các khu vực tương tự, nâng cao khả năng tiếp cận và chất lượng chăm sóc y tế ở những khu vực cần thiết nhất.

    Innovative Teledermatology Initiative Shows Success in Eastern Indonesia  

    Detailed in a new study by Dr Marlous Grijsen and colleagues in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, this initiative has improved access to quality skin care for the underserved populations of Sumba, a remote island in Eastern Indonesia. By connecting local healthcare workers with experienced dermatologists via an online platform, the program not only enhances care delivery but also empowers frontline workers with invaluable dermatological expertise.  

    Bridging the Gap in Dermatological Care  

    The study focuses on the establishment of a low-cost teledermatology service in Sumba, a remote island in Eastern Indonesia. Despite the high prevalence of skin diseases, specialised care in such remote areas has been traditionally scarce. This innovative project, spearheaded by a collaborative effort between Gadjah Mada University, the Sumba Foundation, and OUCRU Indonesia, aimed to bridge the gap in dermatological care, leveraging technology to deliver expert advice rapidly and effectively.

    Study Highlights  

    Over 24 months (October 2020 – October 2022), the service reviewed 307 cases of patients with skin complaints. The majority of these cases were infections, infestations, and eczematous conditions, including neglected tropical skin diseases like leprosy and scabies. A remarkable improvement in diagnostic agreement levels between local healthcare workers (HCWs) and dermatologists was observed, escalating from 46.9% to 77.2% over the project’s duration. This enhancement in diagnostic precision is a testament to the project’s success in knowledge transfer and skill development among frontline HCWs.  

    The teledermatology service has made a significant impact on the local community, providing diagnoses and expert advice within a median time of 50 minutes, with the vast majority of consultations occurring within 24 hours. The HCWs involved in the project have unanimously found the service to be beneficial, noting improvements in their ability to manage skin diseases.  

    Reflecting on the impact of the initiative, Dr Marlous Grijsen remarked: “What we’ve seen in Sumba goes beyond providing a service; it’s about nurturing a sustainable ecosystem of care. This teledermatology project has not only improved patient outcomes but also enhanced the confidence and skills of local healthcare providers when treating skin diseases. It’s a vivid illustration of how technology can be harnessed to elevate healthcare in the most remote and resource-limited settings.”  

    This publication sets the stage for potential scalability and further implementation in similarly underserved areas, enhancing healthcare access and quality in regions where it is most needed.

    HCDC: Nhân viên y tế cũng cần được chăm sóc sức khỏe tâm thần

    Ngày 8/12/2023 vừa qua, Trung tâm Kiểm soát bệnh tật Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh (HCDC) tổ chức há»™i thảo trá»±c tuyến vá»›i chủ đề “Chăm sóc sức khỏe tâm thần cho nhân viên y tế tại thành phố”. Há»™i thảo nêu bật tầm quan trọng của việc chăm sóc sức khỏe tâm thần cho nhân viên y tế, đề xuất chiến lược và nguồn lá»±c hiệu quả để giúp nhân viên y tế chăm sóc sức khỏe tâm thần của chính mình.

    Nhân viên y tế đóng vai trò quan trọng trong chăm sóc sức khỏe cho cộng đồng. Họ thường là những người đầu tiên tiếp xúc với người dân đang phải đối mặt với thách thức về thể chất và tinh thần, đồng thời phụ trách cung cấp các dịch vụ hỗ trợ thiết yếu. Công việc này có thể tạo áp lực đáng kể lên nhân viên y tế, dẫn đến căng thẳng và các vấn đề sức khỏe tâm thần khác. Do đó, nhân viên y tế cần được giúp đỡ để quản lý căng thẳng một cách hiệu quả, giảm áp lực công việc, và tìm được sự cân bằng giữa công việc và cuộc sống.

    Một trong những trọng tâm của nhóm Kết nối Khoa Học với Công chúng và Cộng đồng tại OUCRU là hỗ trợ nhân viên y tế. Nhóm đã và đang có nhiều dự án và chương trình xây dựng và nâng cao năng lực cho nhân viên y tế tuyến đầu, đặc biệt là cán bộ vắc-xin, qua đó giúp tăng tỷ lệ tiêm chủng ở các vùng nông thôn Việt Nam. Nhóm cũng tổ chức nhiều hội thảo trực tuyến và trực tiếp, phát triển và duy trì chuyên trang cung cấp thông tin và tài liệu cần thiết về mặt chuyên môn và sức khỏe tâm thần cho nhân viên y tế và nhân viên y tế hỗ trợ nghiên cứu tại địa phương.

    Tại hội thảo trực tuyến này, Bác sĩ Phạm Ngọc Thanh, Cố vấn Tâm lý, nhóm Kết nối Khoa Học với Công chúng và Cộng đồng, là một trong bốn diễn giả. Cùng với các chuyên gia khác trong lĩnh vực sức khỏe tâm thần, bác sĩ Phạm Ngọc Thanh đã chia sẻ những hiểu biết và kinh nghiệm sâu rộng của mình về các khía cạnh tâm lý trong ngành chăm sóc sức khỏe. Cô cũng mang đến nhiều lời khuyên thiết thực để quản lý căng thẳng và duy trì sức khỏe tinh thần cho nhân viên y tế, đặc biệt là trong môi trường bệnh viện.

    Hội thảo trực tuyến này cũng đề cập đến các phương pháp tiếp cận phi y tế, như các biện pháp trị liệu và cách chăm sóc bản thân tại nhà, với mục đích hỗ trợ nhân viên y tế tự khôi phục sự cân bằng giữa công việc và cuộc sống. Nhóm chuyên gia cũng thảo luận vai trò của việc cung cấp kiến thức và các biện pháp hỗ trợ tâm lý nhằm chăm sóc sức khỏe tâm thần cho nhân viên y tế.

    HCDC: Healthcare Workers need Mental Healthcare  

    On December 8, 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) organised a webinar titled “Mental Health Care for Healthcare Workers in Ho Chi Minh City”. The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of mental health care for healthcare workers and provide them with effective strategies and resources to maintain their own mental well-being. 

    Healthcare workers play a critical role in providing healthcare to the community. They are often the first point of contact for individuals facing physical and mental health challenges, offering essential support. However, this work can sometimes create significant pressure, leading to stress and other mental health issues. Therefore, healthcare workers also require support to manage stress, reduce work pressure, and find a healthy work-life balance. 

    A core part of the work of OUCRU’s Public and Community Engagement group is to support healthcare workers. We have various projects and programmes to enhance the capacity of frontline workers and vaccination field workers, in their work ensuring increased vaccination rates in rural areas of Vietnam. Our initiatives also include organising workshops, webinars, and hosting a knowledge hub to provide necessary materials and resources for the mental and professional support of healthcare workers and field workers. 

    During the webinar, Dr Phạm Ngọc Thanh, our Psychological Advisor, had the honour of being one of the four speakers. Alongside other experts in the field of mental health, Dr Phạm Ngọc Thanh shared her extensive insights and experiences regarding the psychological aspects of healthcare work. She provided practical tips for managing stress and maintaining mental well-being, particularly in hospital settings. 

    The webinar also emphasised the importance of non-medical approaches, such as various therapeutic techniques and self-care tips, with the aim of supporting healthcare workers to restore a healthy work-life balance. The panel of experts also discussed the role of education and psychological support in promoting mental well-being among healthcare professionals.

    Cuộc thi Luận văn Ba Phút (3MT)

    Cuộc thi Luận văn Ba Phút (3MT) được tổ chức thường niên bởi Đơn vị Nghiên cứu Y học lâm sàng bệnh nhiệt đới Madihol Oxford (MORU) và Đơn vị Nghiên cứu Lâm sàng Đại học Oxford (OUCRU) nhằm nâng cao kỹ năng học thuật, thuyết trình và truyền thông khoa học của Nghiên cứu sinh Tiến sỹ.

    Các thí sinh sẽ trình bày nghiên cứu khoa học của mình trong một bài thuyết trình ba phút. Thời gian ngắn đòi hỏi họ phải tóm tắt nội dung một cách ngắn gọn, dễ hiểu cho khán giả không chuyên.

    Cuộc thi có ba vòng loại, và các thí sinh xuất sắc nhất sẽ tham gia vòng Chung kết. Năm nay, sự kiện Chung kết diễn ra tại Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, Việt Nam. Hội đồng giám khảo gồm các nhà khoa học và học sinh trung học sẽ tham gia bầu chọn người chiến thắng.

    Hội nghị Sinh viên MORU-OUCRU (MOSC)

    Bên cạnh Cuộc thi 3MT, Hội nghị Sinh viên MORU-OUCRU (MOSC) cũng được tổ chức hàng năm. Hội nghị là cơ hội giúp các Nghiên cứu sinh từ MORU và OUCRU gặp gỡ, kết nối, và chuẩn bị cho chặng đường nghiên cứu tiến sĩ cũng như bảo vệ luận văn của mình.

    Năm 2023 là lần đầu tiên chúng tôi tổ chức chuyến đi ngoại khóa kéo dài 2 ngày cho các thành viên. Chuyến đi giúp các thành viên mở rộng mạng lưới kết nối và phát triển hơn nữa trong lĩnh vực học thuật.

    Three-Minute Thesis (3MT)

    The MORU-OUCRU Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) is an annual competition organised by the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) and Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) to enhance the academic, presentation and research communication skills of PhD students. 

    Participants are challenged to explain their research in a concise three-minute presentation, tailored for a non-specialist audience. 

    The competition consists of three qualifying rounds, and the shortlisted participants advance to the Grand Final 3MT Competition. This year, the Grand Final took place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and was attended by a live audience. A panel of expert judges and invited local high school students vote to determine the winners, who receive exciting prizes.

    MORU-OUCRU Student Conference (MOSC)

    Alongside the 3MT Competition, the MORU-OUCRU Student Conference (MOSC) is held annually. This conference provides an excellent platform for students from MORU and OUCRU to meet, connect, share their stories and effectively prepare for their PhD studies and vivas. 

    Students embrace the joy of learning and connection at the 2023 MORU-OUCRU Student Conference.

    In 2023, we introduced an exciting addition to the conference, an enriching 2-day away trip for the competitors and students. This trip offered unique opportunities for networking and further academic growth.
